Adventures in cake making....

Don't worry if you are a Spork fan, they will be back soon, but this post is not a Spork post. This post is about my foray into the world of cake making. Let me preface this with a couple facts. The first being, I am a food network junkie. The second that I pretty much think that I can do much anything I try. In this particular case I decided that it wouldn't be a big deal at all to carve and decorate a ginormous birthday cake shaped like an electric guitar. Now being a food network junkie I have watched countless episodes of Ace of Cakes and Food Network cake decorating challenge, so of course I am practically an expert. Who cares that I've never decorated a cake before? They do it on tv, it must be easy right?? Needless to say it wasn't as easy as I had imagined it would be in my head, but all in all I think it turned out pretty well. Here is how it went down.......

My blank canvas

the template I had was too small so I had to wing the shape of the guitar. It was at this point I realized that I had nothing large enough to put this cake on. Fortunately the home depot is right around the corner and after a quick stop to the scrap bin we had a nice makeshift cake board for the bargain price of 51 cents!

After approximately 6 hours of work my masterpiece is finished!

All in all I think the cake turned out pretty darn cute. I guess in this case my confidence in myself wasn't misplaced!

Spork goes to Gardner Village!

Spork heard that Gardner Village was having their Moonlight Madness Beach Party and they just had to go.

They had a tasty (albeit slightly spendy) dinner at Archibalds and then headed out to check out shopping and festivities throughout the village.

Spork in front of the waterwheel (we got some seriously concerned looks while trying to take this one)

After dinner we walked around scoring free fudge and scouring all the shops for bargins for a few hours before deciding to give our aching feet a rest and sitting down to enjoy some festive polynesian dancing. Those polynesians sure know how to get down and boogie.

Ow ow....shake it ladies!

These dudes were pretty good at shakin' it as well.

Pretty much Spork decided that Gardner Village is kind of a girly place, but secretly I'm fairly certain they liked it.

Spork goes country.....

The wait is over! I've finally got a second to update you all on the adventures of Spork so here we go!

For those of you not familiar with Utah county, the last week of June can mean only one thing.....Lehi Round-Up Days! Spork managed to snag a couple tickets to the rodeo Friday night so they packed up their stuff and headed to Lehi Friday afternoon to catch the parade before the rodeo and to have a world famous Lehi Round-Up rodeo hamburger! (Seriously...if you haven't had one you should....they are like drugs!) The parade was amusing to say the least. There aren't many parades on the Starship Enterprise so it was definitely a novelty for Spork. They took quite a few pictures too but unfortunately a lot of them didn't turn out, but here are the ones that did!

Spork waiting for the parade to start....can you sense the excitement???

Whoo hoo for the Lehi Silver Band and their fantastic wagon!

Spork is kinda blurry, but man could this dude wail on the trumpet! Rock on my friend, rock on.

Save the cheerleader(s) save the world!!!
This was our favorite float...it's made of funnoodles! Who wouldn't like a float made entirely of funnoodles. Heck, even just saying funnoodles is great....go ahead, try it...you'll like it I promise!
Whoo hoo! Kids on bikes! I'm not sure why that's exciting, but we took a picture so here it is!

After the parade we trucked on over to the rodeo grounds to get settled in for the big show. We had our tasty hamburgers and then went off to check out all the livestock. Probably not best to eat beef and then go look at it on the hoove....I'm pretty sure this one dude knew that we'd just consumed his cousin.

When we got back to our seats we noticed a strange sight in front of us. It seems that rodents are now becoming fashionable hair accessories in Lehi. I really hope that's a trend that doesn't catch on.
(you may have to click on the picture to enlarge this and view it in all it's rodent glory)

A random picture of Spork in front of the Lehi RoundUp sign.

Once the rodeo started we didn't have much of a chance to take any more pictures. We enjoyed watching all the cowboys do their thang (that is the hick in me coming out) though...that is until it started to rain.....a lot....we were basically soaked in no time flat, but all in all it was still a super fun night.

Stay tuned to see Spork go to Gardner Village next! (maybe even later tonight if I have a chance)

Busy busy busy

A Spork update is coming soon I promise. The boys have been busy with all sorts of stuff but I just haven't had time to sit down and get it all on here. Stay tuned and hopefully it will be up this week!
